"The Lion King, Jr." Auditions

Grades 2-8, April 25 or 26 Grades 9-12, TBA BCHS Theatre 6pm - 9pm Come prepared to sing something. - It can be from the show but it does not have to be. If you would like to use an accompaniment track, you will need to provide your own music and speaker. Songs can also be sung a capella. There will be a movement session and an acting portion so come prepared to move.

Night on Broadway - Audition Dates Announced

The Community Actors of South Texas are once again preparing for their annual "Night on Broadway" and are looking for local talent to come and be a part of this traditional musical celebration!

The dates to audition for this season's performance are: 
Sunday, November 26 from 2pm to 4pm, or
Monday, November 27 from 5pm to 7pm. 

Auditions on both nights will be held in the Bay City High School Choir Room. 

Please come prepared to sing a song from one of your favorite Broadway musicals.  Bring your own music.  In order to be considered for this year's show, you must be prepared to sing your song at auditions.

BCHS Choir’s Dr. Cowart invited to conduct Region Choir

Bay City High School Director of Choirs, Dr. Kara Cowart, served as guest conductor and clinician at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 13 All-Region Choir Clinic and Concert November 3-4th at Lamar Consolidated High School.

The event is organized into a Large School Choir, which consists of students from 5A and 6A schools in the region, and a Small School Choir, which is students from 1A through 4A schools. Cowart was invited to clinic and conduct the two songs performed by the Small School All-Region Choir.

Rehearsals occurred during the day on Friday and Saturday, culminating in the region concert late Saturday afternoon.

“It was such a privilege and honor for me to be able to work with such talented students from our region, and they performed beautifully on the concert,” said Dr. Cowart.

New Season Announced!

The 2017 – 2018 CAST Season has been announced and will include Horton Foote’s “Dividing the Estate” and Ken Legwig’s “Shakespeare in Hollywood.” Night on Broadway returns in January featuring musical numbers directed by Kara Cowart and Andrew Seigrist.

Directors’ Workshop

DIRECTORS’ WORKSHOP SET FOR JULY 22, BAY CITY, TEXAS – If you’ve always wanted to try directing a play but needed direction yourself, mark July 22 on your calendar. Community Actors of South Texas (CAST) has assembled a talented group of directors and educators who will collaboratively take the attendees through the audition process, team building, play selection, and much more. This one-day workshop is scheduled for Saturday, July 22 from 8 am to 5 pm at the Bay City High School Theater, 400 7th Street. Adults 18 and up are welcome. There is a charge of $25 which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. To register complete the registration form at baycitycast.com by July 19. Fees will be collected at the workshop. Instructors include Wes Copeland, Executive Director for the Center for Arts and Science in Lake Jackson. Copeland’s experience as a teacher, performer and director has not only been seen in Brazoria but he has also directed many CAST productions. Joining him will be Craig Fritz who recently directed “You Can’t Take It With You” at the CENTER as well as teaching Director Workshops there. Locally, the talented trio of Theatre Arts directors; Magda Mirelez, Gena Lea and Dave Smith, representing Bay City, Van Vleck, and Tidehaven School Districts will also provide their expertise to those attending the workshop. “Dividing the Estate” Auditions Announced

CAST’s latest production, “Dividing the Estate” by Horton Foote will be holding auditions on Sunday, July 30th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and on Monday, July 31st from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the Bay City Service Center, 2105 Avenue M, Bay City. Auditions will be readings directly from the script. No need to prepare a monologue. Tentative show dates are set for last week of October and first week of September.

Set in the fictional town of Harrison, Texas, in 1987, “Dividing the Estate” focuses on the Gordons, a clan of malcontents ruled by octogenarian matriarch Stella that must prepare for an uncertain future when plunging real estate values and an unexpected tax bill have a negative impact on the family fortune. Stella’s children – predatory Mary Jo, complacent Lucille, and alcoholic Lewis – engage in a debate about whether or not they should divide the estate while their mother is still alive in order to ensure themselves financial independence.
